No horror film listicle is complete without the inclusion of the Hollywood classic ‘The Exorcist’. Not only one of the scariest films ever made, but also based on a true story. According to reports, the film is based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel ‘The Exorcist’ that was inspired by a true story of a 14-year-old boy’s exorcism in Maryland. The story got everyone’s attention when it was carried by a newspaper report of the boy breaking into violent tantrums of screaming, cursing and voicing of Latin phrases—a language he reportedly never studied. In the novel and the film that followed later, the protagonist was changed to a young girl named Linda Blair.
However, later on studying the case, reports suggested that the boy who inspired Blair’s character was “probably troubled” and not possessed.
