Over 13 lakh people visit book fair in Chennai – Times of India


CHENNAI: Curtains were drawn for the 13-day long book fair at YMCA in Nandanam on Tuesday. More than 13 lakh people visited the 43rd book fair, which was inaugurated on January 9.

The annual book fair organised by the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) was also laced with controversies such as journalist being arrested for displaying books against the government and a Tamil writer was asked to end his speech for making references to the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.

A press release here said that more than Rs. 20 crore worth of books were sold at the book fair, which was higher by 20 per cent when compared with last year. About 800 stalls selling titles of multiple languages were up for grab this year.
