Deputy chief minister CN Ashwath Narayan said that the foundation laying ceremony for the varsity will be held in June when the silver jubilee celebrations of the RGUHS begins.
“The project will not be taken on the PPP model. It will be established by the government. We already have a 350-bed government district hospital in Ramanagara,” the minister said, adding that the earlier project estimation of Rs 590 crore is likely to escalate now. He further said that there was no question of establishing a medical college in Kanakapura, which had been mooted by former medical education minister D K Shivakumar.
The dream is to make the Ramanagara medical college under RGUHS a centre of excellence, on par with institute of national importance, he added. Currently RGUHS holds the 1462nd position among the 20,000 universities in the world.
The DCM also said that the plans are in the pipeline to form an industry hub at Bheemanapkuppe, near Doddaladamara.
